Getting a job after prison can be tough. Below, find a list of organizations &companies that help/hire felons and ex-convicts in addition to their regular new hires.
Also, according to a National Center of Addiction and Substance Abuse report, www.centeronaddiction.org/newsroom/press-releases/2010-behind-bars-II 85 percent of all incarcerated individuals in the country are involved with drugs or other addictive substances, BUT only 11 percent of those addicted inmates receive treatment during their incarceration.
The New Jersey Reentry Corporation (NJRC) is a non-profit agency with a social mission to remove all barriers to employment for citizens returning from jail or prison. According to an NJRC report, incarcerating someone for one year in New Jersey costs $53,681 while enrolling that same person in NJRC costs $2,200 Thank you Gov. Reentry For "Returning Citizens"
|
Why are Reentry programs so important?
The importance of offender reentry is a critical tool in breaking the cycle of drug use and crime, and improving the public health and public safety of our communities.
Each year, more than 700,000 people are released from state and Federal prison, while another 9 million cycle through local jails. Statistics indicate that more than two-thirds of state prisoners are rearrested within three years of their release and half are re-incarcerated. High rates of recidivism mean more crime, more victims, and more pressure on an already overburdened criminal justice system. (Source-According to Whitehouse.org)
